These projects are best left to the professionals. You should know what fixture or appliance you want to install before you start.

Why hire a handyman when I can do it myself?

Hiring a handyman saves time and money. Not only will you save time, but you also avoid the hassle of hiring another person. A handyman will have all the equipment and supplies necessary to complete the job correctly.

Should I pay a handyman by the hour or per-project basis?

Personal preference will dictate the final price. Some prefer to pay their handyman by the hour. This allows them to see exactly what they charge. Some prefer to pay each project individually, especially if they are working on multiple jobs simultaneously. Both are fine.

How many hours is it typical to complete a DIY project of this nature?

The average DIY project takes two to four hours. The length of the project will vary based on its complexity and difficulty.

How To

How do I replace a cracked window?

The most common home improvement task is to replace broken windows. The task consists of repairing damage caused to the glass inside your house. This repair will take only 30 minutes. If you don't know how to replace broken glass, you could cause more damage to your home. This article provides some tips on replacing a broken window.

Step one: Get rid of the old glass from the frame

To remove the old glass, you must first lift out the screws holding the windowpane in place. Then undo the lock at the top center of the bottom section of the window frame. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). Next, remove any remaining screws using a pry instrument until they are loosen. After the panes have been removed from the window, clean them well.

Second step: Clean and polish the new glass

Use a dry towel or paper towel to clean the glass. If debris is stuck under the glass, try cleaning it with a spray bottle filled with water and rubbing alcohol.

Third Step: Reinstall the replacement glass

Attach the window panes to the frames. Use a screwdriver to push the outermost edge of your pane down. Gently push your pane back into its opening. Next, insert the next pane by pressing it against the first pane. Continue to insert the panes until you have assembled the whole window. To seal the area where the panes meet, use a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth step: Repair any damage.

Inspect the area around the hole when installing new glass to see if any repairs are required. Two small pieces of wood should be placed along the edges of each hole if the crack is near the corner. These wooden blocks will add strength to the window while also acting as spacers to keep the glass in place during the expansion and contraction of the weatherproofing material.

Fifth step: Seal the repaired area

After replacing the glass, you can apply silicone caulking along the perimeter edges to the window frame. This will seal the glass to the wallboard. Silicone caulking can be purchased at hardware stores and online. You should choose a color to match the wall paint.

Finally, let the caulking cure overnight. Do not disturb the caulking until it has hardened completely. If you don't wait enough, the caulking could crack when you take it off.
